The Alliance Group plans to upgrade its plants so it can reduce its carbon footprint. Meat processing co-operative Alliance Group has set a goal to reduce its carbon footprint during the next 15 years, and will upgrade its plants to ensure they are more environmentally friendly. Plans include a $14m upgrade to improve the quality of treated wastewater discharged into the Mataura River at its plant at Mataura, with similar upgrades planned for the Lorneville plant near Invercargill. Wiese said the Mataura plant was currently meeting existing wastewater discharge standards. “Through the life of the consent, Alliance is proposing to make significant improvements to the quality of the treated wastewater discharged into the Mataura River.
