KUALA LUMPUR: Police have obtained a remand extension for an aquatics coach detained over an allegation that he raped a national diving athlete here last week. City police Criminal Investigations Department chief Senior Assistant Commissioner Rusdi Mohd Isa said the coach will be remanded until Wednesday. The 35-year-old coach is alleged to have raped the underage diver on Sept 26 at the National Sports Complex in Bukit Jalil. “The victim lodged a report on Sunday in fear for her own safety,” Rusdi said in a statement. This is the first major allegation of sexual abuse among the Malaysian sporting fraternity in more than two decades.
