A suspected attacker understood to have accidentally shot himself as he pursued his alleged victim has been arrested on suspicion of attempted murder. The 37-year-old man underwent surgery last night after being dumped at the entrance of a hospital in Newry, Co Down, by other men also alleged to have been involved in the assault. The targeted 53-year-old man got out of the vehicle and attempted to run away. As the chase continued, one of the alleged attackers fell over, sustaining a gunshot wound to the stomach as he did so. The man, 37, who underwent surgery for the shotgun wound was said to be in a critical but stable condition this morning.
