Allegation against CJI: Complainant leaves 'scary' proceedings

The former Supreme Court employee, who has accused the Chief Justice of India of sexual harassment, walked out of the in-house inquiry proceeding saying she felt intimidated to appear before the three-judge panel after being denied permission for her lawyer to appear alongside. Issuing a press note on the third day of the proceeding before a panel of Justices SA Bobde, Indu Malhotra and Indira Banerjee, the person said she was apprehensive of getting justice as the environment is "scary" and that despite insistence, the inquiry committee has not allowed for tracking the call detail records of two persons crucial to the probe of the allegation. According to the complainant, the panel did not inform about the procedure to be followed and the recording of earlier statements left her feeling nervous and frightened. She also stated that the panel was only interested to know why she reported the complaint so late and felt there was no purpose in cooperating with the panel unless it is "fair and sensitive" to her needs.
