Allan Saint-Maximin: Newcastle midfielder returns to training following coronavirus illness

Newcastle midfielder Allan Saint-Maximin has returned to light training nearly two months after testing positive for coronavirus and suffering long-term effects of the illness. The club confirmed later in December that both Saint-Maximin and club captain Jamal Lascelles had failed to return to action as they struggled with symptoms of the virus. "Allan Saint-Maximin returned to light training at Newcastle United's Training Centre on Friday - nearly two months since his last appearance in black and white," a club statement read. Saint-Maximin expressed his excitement at returning to training on his own, with a post saying: "I'm back baby." Newcastle have struggled in Saint-Maximin's absence, failing to record a victory in their last six league games while also exiting the Carabao Cup and FA Cup during that time.
