Finance minister Nirmala Sitharaman told reporters that Delhi state finance minister Atishi brought up the issue of online gaming industry. The Delhi finance minister’s concern was that taxing online gaming platforms at 28% will kill a sunrise industry, Sitharaman told reporters. There was no confirmation from the central government about the figure of ₹1.5 trillion. Centre’s position is that it was the Directorate General of GST Intelligence (DGGI), an independent agency, that was issuing the notices.
