It almost goes without saying that the political parties are the biggest clients of the Independent Electoral and Boundaries Commission. Thus, the appointment of IEBC commissioners, in essence election referees, is an issue of deepest concern to the political parties. It is the political parties that will either legitimise the electoral process or mess it up. That political parties having an interest in the selection of commissioners is not anything untoward. This has the capacity to raise eyebrows inside the political parties and create unnecessary anxiety about the process.
