The wait is over; T+1 settlement is finally here—in North America, anyway. While switching from T+2 to T+1 settlement is largely a market structure issue, getting to a trade-date-plus-one-day settlement cycle has forced firms to examine the middle- and back-office systems involved in the clearing and settlement process. About 15 months ago, the US Securities and Exchange Commission announced that May 28, 2024, would be the compliance date for T+1, and Mexico and Canada followed suit.
