All 10 CUPE locals who were in wage talks with the province have voted in favour of a strike. Nearly every one of the locals voted overwhelmingly for a strike. CUPE New Brunswick president Steve Drost said 94 per cent of 22,000 workers from 10 locals of the Canadian Union of Public Employees have voted in favour of a strike. Talks between the province and CUPE members broke down on Sept. 3 when an agreement over wages couldn't be reached and the province stopped negotiating. 96 per cent of the local voted in favour of a strike.
