The Ethiopia – Eritrea standoff. The war footing continued for two decades till current Prime Minister Abiy Ahmed actualized a peace agreement reached in 18 years back with the instrumentality of the former Algerian leader. The EU signed as a witness alongside the host country, the United States of America, the United Nations and the African Union (then known as the Organisation of African Unity.) 18 years on, peace was realized when PM Abiy Ahmed eventually flew to Asmara and signed a peace deal with President Afwerki.
