Digital services app Yassir has acquired the Uno grocery retail chain from the Algerian conglomerate Cevital. With this deal, Yassir moves from being just an app to running physical stores and managing its own supply chain. Yassir plans to rename the Uno stores to “Yassir Market” and to install self-service terminals and designated areas for online order pickups. Uno is already the country’s leading grocery retail chain and with Yassir’s digital infrastructure, it will likely outpace competitors like Carrefour and Ardis. While competitors like Ardis and Carrefour have online websites or partner with third-party delivery services, online sales are underdeveloped.
