ALGIERS - 18 Febuary 2021: Algerian President Abdelmadjid Tebboune announced Thursday the dissolution of parliament and holding early legislative elections amid anti-governmental protests. In a televised speech, Tabboune also announced that a Cabinet reshuffle will be announced within 48 days. He said that 55-60 detainees from the Hirak protest movement will be released. "The elections will be overseen by the independent election authority and will be integral," he said. Thousands of Algerians demonstrated on Tuesday in the Algerian town of Kherrata to voice support for the Hirak protest movement that ousted Algeria’s veteran president Abdelaziz Bouteflika in 2019.
