The North Africa Journal: The Algerian President, Abdelaziz Bouteflika, officially notified the President of the Constitutional Council, his decision to end his term as President of the Republic. Meanwhile, the leaking of the news of a secret meeting between former intelligence chief and the president’s brother with former president Zerouale to invite him to pilot the transition has been the straw that broke the camel’s back. The request coming from two men who have no legal ground to make such decision, prompted the military to definitely order the president to resign now and not a day later. Now the fate of the president’s brother (Said) is uncertain. Sources say judicial authorities are working on an arrest warrant against him, and steps are underway to freeze all the assets of the Bouteflika family.
