Albury pub's 140th anniversary a celebration for the locals


Some say there is a ghost at the Albury Inn but owner James Rennie says he has not seen one as he prepares to celebrate the pub's 140th anniversary. JOHN BISSET/STUFF The Albury Inn, at Albury, a small settlement between Cave and Fairlie. Supplied The Railway Hotel in 1917 (now the Albury Inn) was opened on December 23, 1879. Within a year it had been extended and became the Opawa Hotel until it was destroyed by fire in 1873. He financed the building of a second hotel, Railway Hotel, which would eventually become the Albury Tavern.
