ST. ALBERT, Alta. — An Alberta community is taking steps to eradicate goldfish from a lake that has been taken over by them. Officials in St. Albert, northwest of Edmonton, say the growing population of Asian goldfish found in Lacombe Lake poses a threat to other aquatic life in the Sturgeon River. Last week, 11-year-old Luke Hebb caught a seven-kilogram koi from Lacombe Lake, which Alberta Environment says is the largest ever recorded in the province. Crews managed to remove 45,000 goldfish from the Edgewater and Ted Hole stormwater ponds in St. Albert last year.
