Senior Labour figures have lined up to effectively dare the party to expel them after Alastair Campbell, the former spin doctor, was thrown out for voting Liberal Democrat. Labour said Mr Campbell’s support for the Lib Dems in last week’s European elections was “incompatible” with membership. Within hours, however, other members said they had voted for a rival party, while Labour faced claims of hypocrisy for failing to act so swiftly against those accused of online threats and antisemitism.
