The former Gunners captain spent the entirety of his career at the north London club, winning four league titles, three FA Cups and two League Cups. Manchester United legend Ferdinand, a winner of multiple major honours including an incredible six Premier League titles and the Champions League, came in at third place for Shearer. ‘A Rolls Royce of a centre-half – elegant, could bring the ball out with pace, could start the move, could stop the move, clever, could read the game,’ Shearer said of Ferdinand. Liverpool’s Virgil van Dijk is the only current player on Shearer’s list, while Vincent Kompany, Nemanja Vidic, Marcel Desailly, Jaap Stam, Gary Pallister and Ricardo Carvalho make up the rest of his top 10.
