Al-Haddad meets activists advocating for parliamentary elections, vows to back their demands

The Chief of the General Staff of the Libyan Army, Mohamed Al-Haddad, received on Sunday representatives of various civil movements who are advocating for a new parliamentary election to end the incumbent legislative bodies. The delegation included representatives of social councils and institutions, and tribal sheiks, besides families of martyrs and missing persons, war-wounded, displaced people, candidates for parliamentary elections, and mayors. The activists' visit comes in the framework of a series of meetings they had or plan to have with political and military leaders to find a way through the political stalemate the Libyan scene is experiencing. They made clear their demands for parliamentary elections, as well as their rejection of war or entering a new transitional phase. For his part, Al-Haddad vowed to back their 'legitimate demands,' stressing that the military establishment would stand firm in the face of all threats.
