Akufo-Addo insists in a CNN interview that Domelevo was legally retired


General News of Tuesday, 4 May 2021Source: www.ghanaweb.comPresident Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo has reiterated that former Auditor General, Daniel Yaw Domelevo, was legally retired and not forced out of office. He told CNN in an interview cited by Accra-based Joy News that Domelevo had attained the retirement age of 60 and was by law expected to exit the public service space. The Domelevo gate made headlines last year when the presidency ordered the then Auditor-General to proceed on accumulated leave. In 1993, Mr Domelevo sought to change the beneficiary to his pension fund and indicated again that he was born on June 1, 1961, and changed his hometown to Ada. Thus the President, based on those facts, notified Mr Domelevo on March 3, 2021, that, that in accordance with the dictates of the Constitution, it was his deemed view that he (Domelevo) had officially retired on June 1, 2020.
