Mr Akufo-Addo signed the Bill at the seat of government, the Jubilee House in Accra on Tuesday, 21 May 2019. The RTI Bill stayed in Ghana’s Parliament for close to two decades despite calls from the media and civil society groups for its passage. The governing New Patriotic Party (NPP) promised during the 2016 election campaign to pass the Bill into law if they were voted for. The NPP government has since been under pressure from civil society groups and the media to pass the Bill into law.
