An airtime recharge App beat over 80 technology innovations to emerge top during the weeklong Nairobi Innovation Week at the University of Nairobi. “OCharge has innovatively made airtime recharge bring more value to something people do everyday,” said Tonny Omwansa, chairman, Nairobi Innovation Week. Launched in July, Ocharge is powered by Oliza ( www.oliza.co.ke), a consumer internet company, which aims to redefine consumer internet business in Africa. Dubbed Ocharge, the app that rewards users with discount vouchers and deals from local top brands every time they top up their mobile phones with airtime floored innovations from global brand Samsung, mobile service provider Safaricom, Barclays Bank and technology company IBM. President Uhuru Kenyatta said the government will increase annual funding to support new inventions and the annual exhibition by Sh100 million.
