European aircraft giant Airbus is taking a majority stake in Bombardier’s controversial C-Series jet programme, potentially safeguarding 1,000 jobs in Belfast. The huge tariff followed a complaint from Boeing that the company had dumped its C-Series jets at “absurdly low” prices. The deal will leave Bombardier with about 31% of the C-Series programme, while financier Investissement Québec will own about 19%. Airbus is hoping to solve the problem posed by the tariffs by assembling the C-Series jets destined for US customers at its own factory in Alabama.
