Enda Kenny has corrected the Dáil record after incorrectly stating that an Irish aid worker murdered in Iraq in 2004 had converted to Islam. The former taoiseach made a statement on Tuesday and said he regretted waiting 13 years to correct the error about Margaret Hassan’s abduction. “Margaret Hassan was a devout Catholic who continued to practice her religion during the years she was in Iraq,” Mr Kenny said. “While her body has never been recovered, I do hope that some day this will happen and that she will receive a Christian burial.”The aid worker from Dublin married Tahseen Ali Hassan. She worked with Care International and devoted her life to Iraq where she had lived since 1972.
