KOTA KINABALU: Superbikers are known to be among the most disciplined road users and should engage other motorcyclists especially kap chai (moped) riders, says Datuk Seri Dr Ahmad Zahid Hamidi. Dr Ahmad Zahid noted that the nation recorded 521,466 traffic mishaps last year, the highest in five years, and that more than half of these involved motorcycles. He said traffic accidents also spelt economic costs to the nation to a tune of RM9.2bil in terms of medical treatment for victims and lost of productivity. Dr Ahmad Zahid said the nation should strive to reduce the number of traffic accidents by 20% every year. "It would be unrealistic to expect zero accidents but we should work towards substantially reducing the number of mishaps," he added.
