The original DACA program will continue to exist and is not affected by the Supreme Court case. However, a 4-4 split would not set legal precedent and could not be used as a legal challenge to the current DACA program. The outcome will determine the future of two immigration relief programs on hold since Obama first announced them in 2014. Families can start getting their documents together, but they will not be able to apply until the programs go into effect. In the case of a positive 5-3 decision, expanded DACA is expected to go into effect within days or weeks.
