The headline of an article published by Politico on 25 January 2024 summarized the mood among French farmers: “French farmers attack foreign trucks, destroy cargoes.” But unrest among farmers is not just confined to France. In this latest offensive from Spanish farmers, Morocco has been struggling to respond to fresh allegations against Moroccan strawberries allegedly being affected by the hepatitis A virus. Ironically, back in January, French farmers dumped Spanish wine that was headed to French markets. Morocco sold 491.91 million kilograms of tomatoes in the EU, surpassing Spain, whose sales fell to 462.66 million kilograms. Türkiye grew remarkably, reaching 248.76 million kilograms in 2023, an increase of 148.16 million kilograms over 2019.
