Agriculture: Reps to probe FG’s food security programme


The House of Representatives, on Wednesday, resolved to investigate funds appropriated to the agricultural sector with a view to ascertain the level of food security in Nigeria. The resolution was passed sequel to the adoption of a motion sponsored by Hon Dennis Idahosa, who observed that despite hundreds of billions of naira appropriated to Agriculture over the years, the outputs in relations to production and food security are not commensurate with the amount spent. “The House is aware that the Agricultural Sector is the fulcrum for food and nutrition security, rapid industrialisation, employment generation, sustained economic growth, and poverty reduction which has become imperative as the prospect for reliance on crude oil reduces globally.
