Agriculture Secretary William Dar aims to transform Philippine agriculture into a competitive industry that have “smart farms” with vast scientific and technological applications from the Fourth Industrial Revolution (Industry 4.0). To lure the younger generation, the DA is striving to attain “Agriculture 4.0,” where various technologies from the Industry 4.0 like digitalization will level up the country’s agriculture and fishery sector. Under Industry 4.0, the agriculture sector will employ new and cross-cutting technologies to increase efficiencies in the food chain. The Agriculture chief said the Philippines had “no choice” but to make itself equipped for Agriculture 4.0 given the numerous challenges the agriculture sector is facing, particularly from climate change and globalization. He also said Agriculture 4.0 should give birth to smart farms.
