Agents face arrest for krathong 'sting'Police are seeking an arrest warrant for copyright agents who ordered krathong baskets adorned with copyrighted cartoon characters from a 15-year-old girl, only to have her arrested and fined for copyright infringement. Pol Maj Gen Sujin Nitpanit, commander of Nakhon Ratchasima Provincial Police, said yesterday that with the investigation almost complete, police would request the court warrant by the end of this week. Police are also expanding the investigation after more than 40 vendors filed complaints against the same agents for allegedly seeking police action against them in copyright "sting" operations to extort fines. A local reporter who tried calling at the copyright agent's supposed home address in Nakhon Ratchasima got no answer, but learned from a neighbour that the man is also a motorcycle taxi rider. TAC Consumer Plc -- the representative of copyright holder San-X cartoon-- denied it had assigned anyone to work with police in copyright sting operations.
