Striking a strong opposition to the proposed bill on instant triple talaq, Congress leader Salman Khurshid said he is against criminalising triple talaq. Senior Congress leader and also a liberal Muslim face of the party, Khurshid added he is hopeful that the party will oppose this draft bill, which is all set to be introduced in Lok Sabha on Thursday. Speaking to India Today, Salman Khurshid said, "When something has already been declared by the courts not to exist, has no legal bearing, why punish someone more in attempting that action?" The instant triple talaq does not stand anymore, so if he decides to divorce the woman, he needs to wait three months as per (Islamic) law. About whether the Congress will object to the bill being put on table, former UPA minister Khurshid said, "I sincerely hope it (Congress) does (oppose).
