After two arrested in rape case, a dozen Pakistani doctors resign from Apollo hospital in Gandhinagar

Days after a Pakistani doctor and a ward boy were arrested for allegedly raping a dengue patient at the ICU of Apollo hospital in Gandhinagar, nearly a dozen doctors from the neighbouring country have resigned from the hospital. According to sources, these Pakistani doctors, working in the state on Long Term Visa (LTV), quit their job or were asked to resign by the hospital authorities after police pointed at non-compliance of the provisions of the Foreigners Act. “Yes, the Pakistani origin doctors resigned Wednesday… The hospital cannot divulge details on how many and why did they resign,” said Sandip Joshi, spokesperson of the hospital. It would be better to contact the HR (human resource) staff of the hospital,” said one of the doctors who resigned when contacted by The Indian Express. But the hospital is situated in Gandhinagar district and therefore, there is a violation of Foreigners Act.”K K Pandya, police inspector of Adalaj police station which is investigating the rape case, said, “I am only investigating the rape case.
