After remarkably warm Tuesday in places, South Island starts to shiverRICHARD COSGROVE/STUFF Chilly southerlies are expected to arrive in Dunedin during the morning, sending the temperature down. Strong southerlies are expected to send temperatures lower in much of the South Island during Wednesday - the autumnal equinox - a day after some remarkably warm temperatures in the east. MetService is forecasting the southerly change, accompanied by rain, will arrive in Southland and Otago during Wednesday morning, and will be in Canterbury during the afternoon. The southerlies are expected to arrive in Wellington on Thursday. Also on Thursday, snow is forecast to lower to 800 metres for a time in the South Island, although gale southerlies should ease during the day.
