After more than 2 year suspension, Russia resumes flights to Cairo

Russia’s largest airliner, Aeroflot, will resume flights to Cairo on Wednesday after more than two and a half years of suspension. The company announced it will operate three flights a week from Moscow to Cairo, on Saturday, Monday and Wednesday, and flights from Cairo to Moscow on Sunday, Tuesday and Thursday. Aeroflot added it will run daily flights between Cairo and Moscow from June 12 to July 2, to meet the increase in demand for travel to Russia, which will host the FIFA World Cup 2018. Russia suspended flights with Cairo in October 2015 when a Russian passenger plane was downed over the Sinai peninsula after taking off from the popular tourist resort Sharm el-Sheikh, killing all 224 people on board. A number of Russian tour operators had began announcing tourist programs in the cities of Sharm el-Sheikh and Hurghada.
