PETALING JAYA: With the many complaints over his plan to hold two portfolios, Prime Minister Tun Dr Mahathir Mohamad has decided not to take up the job of Education Minister. Dr Mahathir said he relinquished the portfolio as Education Minister because “it is the position of the Pakatan Harapan manifesto”. “Before this, the Prime Minister and Deputy Prime Minister used to alternate between Defence and Home Affairs. Otherwise, why should I choose that ministry (Education)?” said Dr Mahathir when asked if he wanted to take up another ministerial post. DAP stalwart Lim Kit Siang defended Dr Mahathir, saying the latter did not violate the letter and the spirit of the Pakatan manifesto.
