The ALBNI, in the petition titled ‘Delay in Settlement of Entitlements of Armed Forces Personnel Killed in Active Service’, separately asked the Senate and House Committees on Defence to investigate the issues raised in the report by The PUNCH on Saturday. According to the report, some widows of soldiers killed in the decade-old war against Boko Haram fighters are currently lamenting the failure of the Ministry of Defence to pay them their husbands’ life insurance claims several years after their demise. The dead soldiers were mostly officers in the Nigerian Army with ranks ranging from lieutenant to captain. The petition read partly, “Indeed, the welfare of the living soldiers and families of the fallen heroes must be accorded the needed and deserved attention. And, more importantly, douse the restiveness in the various barracks and formations across the country where widows and their children are living in penury.”
