He demoted his powerful uncle, Shivpal Yadav , in the ministry, only to take him back within two days. He has also been pushed to accept Gayatri Prajapti , a Shivpal and Mulayam acolyte, back in the ministry. Shivpal managed to get a strong approval from the one who mattered, Mulayam Singh Yadav, who backed him till the last. He was kept away from much of the peace talks by Mulayam, despite landing in Lucknow to broker a peace accord. Singh would find it difficult to retain the limelight that he enjoyed in the SP when Mulayam was the chief minister.
