Ruddy Shelducks nest no closer than the Balkans and north west Africa, though 1,000 moulting on the Dutch coast each summer are a more likely source of birds seen in Britain. No-one is certain from where Ruddy Shelducks in the Netherlands originate, but there is a large feral population in Switzerland, so perhaps that’s where they’re from.
