Africa Has a $100 Billion Infrastructure Problem. What’s Missing?

On top of this, Africa’s limited existing infrastructure is already being severely impacted by extreme events associated with climate change. The infrastructure projects identified in PIDA require investments in the order of $360 billion by 2040. Figure 1: Infrastructure Financing Commitment in Africa in 2017 by Sector (by Percent)The Infrastructure Consortium for Africa indicates that $81.6 billion of investments were committed to infrastructure development in Africa in 2017 as illustrated in Figure 1. However, this volume of investment is still far short of the $130-$170 billion per year to 2025 needed to close Africa’s infrastructure gap.
