Economic shifts, demographic trends and climate pressures are drawing the continent closer to the core of global policy discussions. What is changing is the increasing acknowledgement that the system has not been fair to Africa and that the continent deserves better. The purpose of the Africa Forward Summit is to narrow that gap. There is broad agreement on the principle of a just transition, made more clear by the Africa Climate Summit two years ago in Nairobi. The Africa Forward Summit will not resolve these challenges on its own but will serve as a vital platform to mobilise Africa’s position ahead of the G7 Summit in Evian.
