Afghanistan not doing enough for peace in region, COAS tells US commander


“Peace in Afghanistan is more important for Pakistan than any other country,” he was quoted as saying by the Inter-Services Public Relations (ISPR). Commander United States Central Command (US Centcom) General Joseph L Votel had called on Gen Qamar at the General Headquarters in Rawalpindi. Discussion between the two commanders focused on regional security situation, Afghanistan, Pak-Afghan border management and Pakistan’s positive contributions towards peace and stability in the region. These Taliban terrorists use their sanctuaries as a springboard for launching cross-border attacks on Pakistani military’s border posts and on civilian population. Pakistan has started fencing its long and porous border with Afghanistan to check the movement of Taliban terrorists from Afghanistan.
