Counsellor and presenter Alexia Bensemann, left, and Anglican Care South Canterbury social justice advocate Ruth Swale have organised advocacy workshops for Waimate. Requests for the return of advocacy workshops has led to four sessions in Waimate over the next three months. Previous workshops in Waimate were held in 2016 and 2017, with a different presenter. The Advocacy Group arm of Anglican Care was formed after a report by Swale in 2014 which found significant social justice issues in South Canterbury. The Advocacy Group empowers people to self-advocate through the workshops and also offers one-to-one advocacy support to help people break down barriers and access the services they need.
