The average adult eats 300 calories more than they need each day PAPublic health officials are urging adults to reduce the amount of food they eat to 1,800 calories each day and to persuade popular chains to offer healthier meals. The guidelines from Public Health England (PHE), to be published next year, recommend that men and women consume 400 calories for breakfast, 600 calories at lunch and dinner, and 200 calories in snacks each day. At present experts recommend 2,000 calories for women and 2,500 for men, but say that the average adult overeats by 300 calories a day.
