Dozens of adult performers are set to picket Instagram’s Silicon Valley headquarters over guidelines about photos containing nudity. The inconsistency of the rules, they say, has led to hundreds of thousands of account suspensions and is imperiling their livelihoods. But the Adult Performers Actors Guild, the largest labor union for the adult film industry, says Instagram has removed the accounts of more than 1,000 adult performers so far in 2019, most without explanation. But users say removals without explanation are on the rise, and the process to get deleted accounts reactivated is impossibly confusing. Facebook recently banned “sexual slang”, Tumblr shut down all porn-related content, and Twitter allegedly “shadow bans” sex content, making it less visible in news feeds.
