By SAM WAMBUGUMore by this AuthorThe six East African Community (EAC) countries: Burundi, Kenya, Rwanda, South Sudan, Tanzania and Uganda, have been fomenting a process geared towards increasing economic integration. Without first overcoming individual country health problems like these, the goal of providing quality health services to people in the EAC region will remain a pipe dream. Part of the solution is to automate and interlink health facilities such that they can exchange patient information, akin to the way the banks work. Likewise, authorised health providers should be able to access a patient’s information in any health facility in the country and in selected health facilities in the collaborating countries. Fortunately, there is agreement among EAC member countries that technology is a key coefficient in solving this complex health calculus.
