Admission seekers in DU-affiliated colleges block road in protest

Admission seekers in the seven colleges affiliated with Dhaka University (DU) blocked the Nilkhet-New Market roundabout for more than three hours on Tuesday protesting alleged irregularities during the admission process. The admission seekers began demonstration around 11:30am and continued until 2:30pm, which caused massive disruption in traffic movement between Nilkhet and Azimpur. Protesters claimed that many students who appeared in the admission test for 2017-18 academic session had yet to get into their desired courses or colleges, even though they were on the merit list. Meanwhile, people who did not even take the admission test were granted admission, they alleged. The seven colleges – Dhaka College, Eden Mohila College, Government Shaheed Suhrawardy College, Kabi Nazrul Government College, Begum Badrunnesa Government Women College, Mirpur Government Bangla College and Government Titumir College – became affiliated with Dhaka University in February 2017.
