Admission race heats up in city colleges

In aided colleges, students with 760 marks find it difficult to get admission to B.Com courses, college authorities said. The highest marks scored by a student admitted this year is 1,000 and the lowest is around 600. English Literature should either have scored at least 180 marks in English or 140 in Advanced English, teachers said. Welcoming the decision to increase intake, teachers from aided colleges said cut-off will differ among colleges as students and parents would prefer a college with a brand name. In government colleges, the cut-offs will be higher as there is no tuition fee and special fee will be around Rs.
