The Administrative Court set June 13 to decide on the lawsuit filed by lawyer Essam al-Islambouly demanding the suspension of the new Judicial Authority Law. The lawsuit called the law to be referred to the Constitutional Court to decide on its constitutionality. The law, recently ratified by the Parliament and President Abdel Fattah al-Sisi, allows the President to select the heads of judicial bodies. Meanwhile, the government's lawyer called for dropping the case due to the lack of the court's jurisdiction to decide on the matter. In related news, the Administrative Court referred Tuesday the lawsuits filed by lawyers Ahmed Mahmoud and Ayman Aouyan, demanding that the House of Representatives issue the Transitional Justice and National Reconciliation Law in accordance with the Constitution.
