Adhere to professional standards, journalists urged

Dr Seidu Alidu, a political science lecturer, has asked journalists and media practitioners to adhere to professional ethical standards, as the December Elections approaches. Dr Alidu, a Lecturer at the University of Ghana, said it was necessary for journalists to maintain high professional and ethical standards in executing their constitutional obligations with impeccable integrity. He admitted that though the condition of service in some media organisations were not good, journalists and media practitioners must take advantage of information communication technology to explore other professional opportunities to enhance their living conditions. He said poor conditions of service must not be a “yardstick for the media to be corrupted” and entreated practitioners to endeavour not to “sell their conscience to politicians”. Dr Alidu called on journalists to blacklist or avoid giving audience to political parties and their candidates whose utterances had the potential to inflame passions and cause conflicts in the country.
