Joel AdemisoyeThe African Development Bank is under siege from the United States by calling for the external investigation of the bank’s President, Nigeria-born Dr Akinwumi Adesina at the financial institution. The US joined the African Development Fund in 1976 and it became a member of the African Development Bank in 1983. Here is a breakdown of the membership: 54 African countries and 26 American, European and Asian countries, making a total of 80 members. It is revealing that the African Development Bank is just in name, where the composition of members is geographically spread out to America and Asia. Adesina is a well-known government policymaker for ‘thinking outside the box’ with innovative ideas leading to a paradigm shift in African agricultural policy.
