Mr Horton said he attempted without success to run a version of the advert in Australian newspapers last April. "What brings it to mind occasionally is when we have a visiting Australian Prime Minister or Cabinet minister who emphasises the special bond that Australia has with New Zealand. Former Herald proprietor Michael Horton paid for the advert in the Listener titled "Australia and New Zealand - a world apart". Fairfax did not respond to Mr Horton. Treatment of New Zealanders who arrived in Australia after 2001 has been a growing point of contention between the two countries.
